Tina O’Hailey is the Dean of the School of Digital Media at SCAD; prior to that, O'Hailey was the Associate Chair of Animation and a professor of animation. She spent the first part of her career working as an industry trainer for Walt Disney Feature Animation, Dreamworks animation and Electronic Arts.

Great Book by a Great Teacher

I have had this book for over a year, and found it to be instantly helpful in learning to rig my own characters. Yes, Tina makes jokes in the paragraphs, but I find it keeps me from getting too bored with the extremely technical aspects of the subject matter. I also enjoy her comments about how things were years ago, to give beginners some perspective on how much much CG has changed since early versions of Maya. Tina is a former teacher of mine, so I knew this book would be good, but I was surprised that after going through it, I am no longer intimidated by rigging at all. I plan to use this book as a Text for a beginning rigging class I'm teaching myself next month.

Great intro to rigging

I come from a character animation background and really enjoyed this book. The author draws on a vast amount of experience, and explains how to accomplish various rigging tasks AND why doing it that way is better than alternative methods (as well as potential pitfalls that might arise). My one complaint is that the maya screen captures/diagrams in the book are so small as to be almost unreadable, but it is enough to point you in the right direction so you can follow along in the software itself.

About the Author
Maurice Obstfeld is the Class of 1958 Professor of Economics at the University of California, Berkeley. His interests are in international finance and macroeconomics, areas in which he has published numerous research articles. Professor Obstfeld received his Ph.D. from MIT and later taught at Columbia, the University of Pennsylvania, and Harvard before moving to Berkeley. He has served as a consultant for the IMF, World Bank, European Commission, and several central banks. With Kenneth Rogoff, he is the author of Foundations of International Macroeconomics (1996). He is also the author, together with Paul Krugman, of International Economics: Theory and Policy, which has been translated into several foreign languages. He is a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research, a Research Fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research (London), and a Fellow of the Econometric Society.

Color me Disappointed

I recently purchased this book [eventually] from lwdancer. It may have started as an unfortunate error but ended very sour. I ordered a Hardcover edition of Bridges of Toko-ri. The ad said "Good Condition--Collectible".
What I first received was a condensed version in a book with several other condensed stories. I contacted the seller and we agreed to return it. It cost me $11.99 to mail it back. After nearly 2 months I heard they were sending me another book. What I received was an old library copy in poor condition. The library name was stamped in several different places, the card envelope was hanging there, the first page was clipped and the cover is just barely hanging on to the pages of the inside. This copy was sent from another seller, so "lwdancer" did not even see it. Definitely not a "Collectible" copy. In an e-mail I complained of the quality to the seller and again asked for my postage expense back. lwdancer replied complaining they were making no money on the deal and that they considered the book collectible. I told them I would leave the final result to their honesty and discretion, but have heard nothing for a month. I would NOT recommend this seller to anyone as they do not give accurate descriptions of their products and do not stand behind their word.

A very good, but very short novella

I really enjoyed this story. It is a straightforward read with no inappropriate language. I was surprised how short it is. It can be easily read in a few hours. James Michener is a far better writer than I will ever pretend to be. Accordingly, I wish this story was longer. There is very little development of characters. The story went too fast and I was sorry when it was over.

But the history of weeping in Britain is not simply one of famous tear-stained individuals. These tearful micro-histories all contribute to a bigger picture of changing emotional ideas and styles over the centuries, touching on many other fascinating areas of our history. For instance, the book also investigates the histories of painting, literature, theatre, music and the cinema to discover how and why people have been moved to tears by the arts, from the sentimental paintings and novels of the eighteenth century and the romantic music of the nineteenth, to Hollywood weepies, expressionist art, and pop music in the twentieth century.

About the Author

Thomas Dixon is a historian of emotions, philosophy, science, and religion at Queen Mary, University of London, where he directs the Centre for the History of the Emotions. A regular contributor to radio and television programmes as an academic consultant, interviewee, and presenter, he was the consultant for Ian Hislop's Stiff Upper Lip: An Emotional History of Britain, a three-part BBC Two series in 2012. The author of several books and numerous articles on the history of ideas, in 2008 he was awarded the Dingle Prize (for the best book on the history of science accessible to a wide readership) for his Science and Religion: A Very Short Introduction, also published by Oxford University Press.

Fun for the Family

We ordered this as a gift to our children from their "Elf." I love how it walks through every step of Jesus's coming and birth, including the prophecies the lead up to the miraculous event. The kids really enjoyed shouting out the special phrase for each lessons, as well as placing the stickers in the appropriate place on the poster. I highly recommend this Advent Calendar to people with young children who want to focus on Jesus and the true reason for Christmas.

Great Family Advent Devotion Book

This is a great Advent book for families with young children and elementary age children. There are daily devotions, activity suggestions, and puzzles. There is also a poster Advent calendar with a new sticker for each day. It is easy to use the Advent calendar and devotions in a way that fits well with your children's ages and interests.

I used this book as a daily Advent devotion with my 6 year old daughter during the month of December. We both enjoyed it very much! My daughter's favorite part was the Advent calendar poster that went on the wall. She had fun finding the placing a new sticker on the poster each day as we counted down the days until Christmas.

This advent calendar is great! It has an easy to follow parent's guide with suggestions for younger and older children plus engaging poster, stickers and puzzles/activities that go along with each day. All while teaching the real reason for the season and helping to center our thoughts on Christ. I totally recommend it! PLUS it can be used for several years if you manipulate the resources correctly. All around a great product from Tyndale and Focus on the Family (they never disappoint!).
