Love the exaggerated voluptuous Rubenesque style of the artist

I'm a big fan of this guy's artwork and subject matter. I bought his 1st. book and just added this one to my collection. Although the models and faces and poses, all look 'generically the SAME' in both books....this is more a minor observation than complaint. Love the exaggerated voluptuous Rubenesque style of the artist. (And this can be a great 'reference source' for other artists & sculptors looking to recreate this female bodytype in other art mediums)

I enjoyed the book.

I see alot of negative reviews of this book, but I thought there was alot to take out of it. Yes, if you've read "Think & grow rich", "rich dad/poor dad" and listened to any of Tony Robbins, alot of this book will feel familiar to you, but it was a nice rehash of those guys along with his personal experiences. There are a few gold nuggets in this book. I have a pretty short attention span and generally can not get through an entire book without getting bored, but I did manage to read this one all the way through, although I did find a few pages to be a bit unnecessary and long winded. But over all I would recommend it.

Been there, done that - and you can TOO!!!

Along with reading this excellent book, I have to take umbrage with one of the negative reviews. That person claims that it is impossible to get rich without marrying rich or crying to rich parents for money. I am a perfect example of going from rags to riches. I was a throwaway kid, kicked out of an alcoholic household (my rats) at age 15, a young teenage girl, broke & homeless, and I NEVER went on public assistance of any kind and never entered foster care. I had many low paying jobs I didn't like, found a roof for rent, and by the time I was 20 I started my first business and retired after owning several more when I was 38. Most of my businesses cost me less than $1,000 to start, I didn't have to borrow any money from anyone, and NO ONE helped me - EVER. For the whiner in the negative review, instead of whining, try taking action. Try being determined and persistent. If you don't give up, these principles will really truly work. DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE TITLE--THIS BOOK CAN MAKE YOU RICH

This is a superb book. Its origin is the entrepreneurial experience and growth of the author. That's what makes it so valuable. It isn't ivory tower professorial opinion. It's the story and explanations and inspirations of a guy who started down and out, lost it several times, and ended up succeeding bigtime. Furthermore, unlike a lot of guys like him, he doesn't fluff or smooth over the realities. He tells it like it is. This book will give you a rare combination of entertaining story, valuable advice and tips on making it in the real world, and mastering the inner game of business success. I found this book nothing short of fabulous. It is energizing, and liberating. It will liberate you from any excuses or fears about succeeding from whereever you are. Then, as I do, you'll want to refer back to it over and over, because reading even parts of it that you highlight, will be an instant vitamin shot of motivation. Buy, read and prosper.

Another inspirational read from the 'Llewellyn Sabbats essentials' series.

I would like to thank Llewellyn Worldwide, Ltd. for a free ARC of this book via Netgalley in exchange for an open and honest review.

Another great reference book from Llewellyn Worldwide for those wishing to learn more about the sacred ‘Wheel of the year’.

This is the second book in the ‘Llewellyn Sabbats essentials’ series I’ve read and, although again strongly focussed on the faith in the northern hemisphere, it still represented the quality of work I’ve come to expect from this series.

And, what I liked a lot was that I’ve never really done much for Imbolc, as I focus more on Ostara at the end of September (here in Australia) and I do love how the book not only taught me the importance of this Sabbath, it’s inspired me to do more for it come the end of July next year.

As with the other book I’ve read in this series, ‘Imbolc’ encouraged me to keep doing things “my way”. While also teaching me a few new things that I feel will really help lift the darkness of winter and bring a little light back into my home a little earlier. A book not only of knowledge, history and ritual… but inspiration and passion too.

Would I recommend this book to others? Yes I would. Again, the stronger connection to the northern hemisphere (just like the book ‘Yule’) means other southern hemisphere folk may draw more inspiration than actual ritual practices from the book… but it is still a worthy reference book and guide for those wanting to know ‘what it’s all about’ and reconnect to the cycles of our seasons and our glorious Mother Nature. It also gives us a broader look at the world and our Pagan faiths within it.

Would I buy this book for myself? As with ‘Yule’… I might. I do have some books that follow the Wheel that are more Southern Hemisphere orientated that work for me… but I did enjoy reading this series and do find the books so inspirational that they are a strong contender to add to my library of faith reading.

In summary: A well written book of reference for anyone wanting to get back in touch with the Sabbath of Imbolc, the Quickening, the Goddess Brigid, and so on. Although a book better suited to those of the Pagan faith in the northern hemisphere, it is still a good reference book for southern hemisphere Pagans too. It’s a good nudge in the right direction, rather than a strict statement of how it should be. A perfect book to embrace into your faith, and to help you find more balance in how to live.

A thoughtful take on Imbolc

I liked this volume more than the Yule one, mostly because it remained pretty firmly fixed in Brigid lore, rather than being spread across a broader variety of cultures. This gives it a depth- although I also appreciate a broader approach!

Imbolc is a quiet festival, and the crafts and rituals described work well for it.

I will mention that in re recipes, one is for making butter; it would have been helpful to many people to be informed that ultrapasteruized cream will NOT make butter, no matter what you do. Often that is the only kind of cream available! But that failure is NOT an omen! it's due to the processes.

Mildly recommended, and I will likely get more in the series.

Excellent Little Book & Worth the Money!

This is a wonderful little book on Imbolc! I love it and will be getting the rest in the series. It gives some history, simple rituals, along with crafts and recipes you can do on this special day. It arrived on time and in excellent condition. It is a good side to fit in a purse of medium size or larger. It is easy to read as well.

This is an illuminatng book, but I would not have purchased it had I known that it is a book about Derrida's lectures, not a critical edition of them. There is no reconstructed typescript of the third lecture in this book.

My favorite in the Malory series!

How delightfully wonderful! By far, it's one of the most fun and romantic books I've read by Johanna Lindsey. You will fall in love with James and Georgina as they literally take to the high seas. What I loved the most was the obvious fun Lindsey had when she wrote the book. When you can feel the passion a writer has for their own stories then you know you are reading a great book.

If you like the Malory brothers then I dare say James will become your favorite. His character was developed and stayed true to his introduction in the first two books. This time we get to see his character in full and watch as the delightful Georgie comes in contact with him. Her storyline with her brothers was refreshing and I'm so glad Lindsey incorporated them. When they meet James for the first time, I had to read it over again simply to be sure I didn't miss anything. It was that good.

Absolutely recommendable!!! Wouldn't this be a fun movie? There's one part at the end with screams something you would see from A Princess Bride.

Ahhh now we have James Malory's story and what a ride it was.
James meets his match in Georgina Anderson and let me just say she is perfect for the "black sheep" of the Malory clan.
I have read this book several times and never get bored. How can I? This is James and he is a trip...*wink*
The dialogue between James and Georgina is awesome as it is with the rest of the characters. Especially when Anderson and Malory clans are under the same roof. Hysterical. Loved it!!!

One of my all time favorite books EVER!

I picked up this book from a pile of books that were given to me by a deceased relative when I was about 11. Yeah I know a little too young to be reading this book in particular at that age, but I had always loved reading romance novels so she bequeathed me all of her collection (which was HUGE) when she passed. I will be forever grateful to her for doing so. I never had so much enjoyment from reading a book. So much so in fact that I have purchased this book multiple times since the first time I read the book. First copy of it sadly got destroyed when I loaned it out. It took me YEARS to remember the author's name (this was before google... so yeah that tells you how long it was ago). When I finally did, I quickly snatched another copy of the book. Unfortunately between that time and now, I've moved around a lot so I lost them and purchased additional copies. I couldn't count the number I've bought. That's how much I adore this book.

The characters are delightful, the story line is engaging enough to keep you entertained and literally laughing out loud in some parts, all in all the best book I've ever read - and I've read a lot. Since I've gotten older, I can fully appreciate the "juicy" bits to it as well. Very well done but not overly so to be distracting or all out porn. I thoroughly enjoyed the spectacle.

Since this book, I've purchased and read dozens of Ms. Lindsey's works. You really can never go wrong with this author. She draws you in and makes you fall in love with the characters, the scenes, the entire books. Superb writing skills.

A Bit Disappointed

This is a newer version of a songbook that was first published in 1981, I believe. The saddest part is that six of the songs previously in the book are no longer there. Those songs are: "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus," "Mary's Little Boy Child," "My Favorite Things," "Silver Bells," "Sleep Well Little Children," and "Toyland." If you specifically want any of those songs, I suggest you look for a previous edition of this book.

Great Song Book

I have the old version of this book from the 80's. This is exactly the same with the exception of maybe one page and this one has a new cover and a CD. The song selection is great. I use this for playing the piano. My skill level is not very advanced so this is challenging enough for me without being too difficult. I bought this copy for a friend who liked my old one and wanted one for herself. Excellent buy.

About the Author
Ransom Riggs is the New York Times bestselling author of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, the writing of which was largely responsible for his current addiction to old photo collecting. Rather than seek treatment, Ransom channeled his compulsion into the compiling of Talking Pictures, a book he hopes will make you cry, and perhaps find a coveted spot on your coffee table. He lives in Los Angeles, where you can often find him hunting for old snapshots at the monthly Rose Bowl Swap meet.

Whetted my appetite- where's my meal?

When I was a small child in Chicago my parents and I regularly rode the elevated trains through the different neighborhoods. At each stop I could peer across the tracks at people and their back porches and wonder what their lives were like. Whose sled was leaned up on the wall of the porch? Why didn't those people take down their Christmas decorations? Sometimes I would spot a crying child or see what looked like an argument through an apartment window. Or look down on the players on a basketball court- who was playing? Who stood off to the side? What were their conversations about? I enjoyed making up little stories about these "el" people and their lives and wondred what it would be like to be a part of their lives. This collection of photographs gave me the same pleasure. A glimpse into a stranger's life- seeing someone or something that wasn't intended for me to see. Some of the photographs provided a bit of information about what was taking place or what it meant to the subject of the photo. Others raised eerie questions. I enjoyed the book very much and wished that the author had included more photographs. I felt as if I was just getting started when it came to the end.

An intriguing, entertaining page-turner; inspires me to resurrect this valuable ritual!

I enjoyed this "photo album" so immensely I immediately sent a digital gift of it to my mother. It's so incredibly human, proving that our emotions, struggles, joys, sorrows, and laughs are timeless, bonds that reach across decades, even centuries, to tie us together in the experience of life. Ransom Riggs is a rare historian capturing this fragile record of our collective memories, and I applaud his dedication to keeping this rapidly vanishing resource alive.

TALKING PICTURES goes from hilarious to heartbreaking and back again, plus everthything in between. It's as fun to flip through as a family album - only more poignant and irreverent. These resurrected bits of rubbish depict *real* people, are real photos, snapped with purpose, only to become a swirling pile leaves fallen from the family tree, caught on the winds of change and swept up, rescued, and collected by Riggs and his fellow enthusiasts.

I know my own grandparents were guilty of the very crime of tossing out photographs when they moved across the country in '69. I wish I wish they hadn't done that.

I'm going to start turning my digital photographs into real physical prints, and writing on them, too. Riggs is right: this is too important to our history to leave to computers, files, memory cards, flash drives, and Facebook!

I'll be giving a copy of this book to many people on my list this Holiday season. It's so entertaining and enchanting I want to share it with everyone I know.

An Excellent Choice For Anyone Interested In Found Photos

From cover to cover, this book is filled with fascinating images that are thought provoking and capture the reader's imagination. The author wisely lets the images and their messages do the "talking" and the reader is left to do the interpretation which is the point of the book. As a collector of such images and similar books in this field, I was not disappointed with the "interestingess" of photos included, the arrangement by theme, and the large number of images included. This is the kind of book that you can pick up again and again and discover something new. Destined to become a classic within the field of found/vernacular photography, this book is a keeper and a must have. In short, this book works and works well.

The quality of the reproductions and the printing is very good and for the price it's a real bargain. I purchased additional copies to give as gifts.

A sequel to "Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children" this book is not (another fascinating book by the way), it was not intended to be. Nor is it an overly wordy or scholarly work on found/vernacular photography, which is a good thing in my opinion. As previously mentioned, the author expertly presents the material and the reader is left to explore the context of each image paired with its message. The images within the book stand on their own and do so superbly. I highly recommend this book, it's a real gem.

Nadia Hashimi was born and raised in New York and New Jersey. Both her parents were born in Afghanistan and left in the early 1970s, before the Soviet invasion. A compelling novel outlining the sad truths of female existence in some countries while celebrating the bonds of womanhood. Refreshing to have women portrayed as strong, compassionate and supportive beings in spite of the hardships and discrimination they endure. A tribute to the search for justice in an environment where cultural and societal norms make that quest so difficult.

What a powerful story! If you are interested in history and the plight of women in Afghanistan, this book is for you. I read into the wee hours to finish this book. I literally could not put it down. I highly recommend this insightful book.

Insightful and hopeful

Really well written and intriguing from the start. It highlighted the plight of women in Afghanistan, how they are treated and how through ignorance and lack of education, society keeps them down and holds them accountable for problems that they haven't caused. In a subliminal way, it displays the absolute need for education of all in order to allow a society to progress. While the society appears backward the book does shine a glimmer of light and hope through the work of those who have returned, and through those that have stayed and received an education.
